Personalisation in made-to-measure: initials, buttons, lining and other details

Small details can make an outfit personal without making the style restless.

In made-to-measure, the client can influence details in a way that is usually not possible with ready-to-wear. Initials, lining, buttons, pockets, lapels and stitching build the personality of the garment. Good personalisation is controlled.

Initials are personal but discreet

A name, date or initials work well in a wedding suit, gift or important business garment. The best place is often inside the garment, where the detail is meaningful to the client but not too visible.

The lining can be calm or bold

The lining offers a chance to add colour or a story. In a business suit, a subtle lining may be best. In a formal suit, a stronger tone or pattern can work if the outside remains balanced.

Not every choice needs to be bold

One or two considered details often work better than many special choices. If the fabric is already expressive, buttons and lining should stay calmer. If the fabric is classic, details can add more character.
